ScienceOver the next few weeks, we will be exploring our simple machines in more detail. This week, students gained deeper understanding of wheels and axles through brainstorming and experiments. We learned that wheel and axles help us to move items by reducing friction! We also had an opportunity to attend Nose Creek School's Science Fair to gain insight on scientific research and studies going on at our own school! Math - MultiplicationI have taken the first two worksheets back from students for grading. If you missed any of the handouts, I have included them below. HumanitiesThis week, we have been learning about First Nations Groups in Alberta. We had a strong focus on the nomadic groups who lived in the grasslands, such as the Blackfoot COnfederacy, the Tsuu T'sina, and the Prains Cree. These groups were dependent on buffalo for most of the things they needed to survive, and followed the herds' migration patterns.
Story WritingLast week, we told stories using petroglyphs. This week, we are using traditional stories and stories about First Nations groups to help us write our own stories. This week we used planners to help us organize our ideas and make a rough draft. We will be continuing to work on our stories next week, so make sure student have their blue duotang with their completed first drafts to school on Monday so we can start to edit and lengthen our stories. Have a great weekend, and don't forget to read!
Sincerely, Ms. Patterson Social StudiesWe have been learning about First Nations groups in Alberta. Today, we got to use iPads to make stories and imagine that we are drawing petroglyphs to help us tell stories about a successful hunt. MathWe are currently working on subtraction and borrowing in math. Please feel free to practice over the weekend. ScienceThis week, we have been working on research for simple machines. Students have access to instruction handouts and helpful links on their google drive accounts. Links and handout can also be found below. Their research assignment is due on Wednesday, January 23.
First Week Back from BreakWelcome back! It was so nice to see 4F after our long, winter break. Check PowerSchoolStudents have brought their Science, Social, and Math DuoTangs home this weekend to look over their old assignments. Please check for rubrics - each assignment on PowerSchool has a matching rubric. If you are missing one, please feel free to send me an email. Animals and HumansWe learned about Koko the gorilla (who was taught sign language so she can talk to humans), and explored how humans interact with animals. We were able to show our thinking about how animals are helped or hurt by humans. Students are taking their BIG questions home this weekend to finish up and review their writing. Please encourage them to show their thinking! ScienceWe did computer experiments that helped us to learn about lenses. Below are the games we played, which could help us with our challenge questions that we have for HOMEWORK this weekend. This is another great place for students to show their thinking! MathThis week, we explored how to use and read bar charts to understand collected data. Below, we charted how many students ate different kinds of foods each day this week, and were able to find and compare specific points of information. We also used puzzle math to help us use a formula for science. Our formula was: Objective Lens Size = Magnification x Eyepiece Lens Size NO SCHOOL ON MONDAYA Letter About Healthy HungerHello Students and Parents!
