Students are continuing to review vocabulary learned over the last month and are developing a nice French accent when speaking aloud! They learned how to ask to go to the bathroom and get a drink “a la français.” Students also learned how to say the numbers from 1 to 31 (which I've attached below), and had fun singing some songs to practice. We started work on learning the days of the week so we can start saying the date during class. Students learned a new song for remembering them, which I've also attached below. We learned that the days of the week in French should not start with a capital letter. Next week we'll start learning the months of the year! —Mme Jagger

Students wrote their name and wrote four phrases that answer the question: Comment ça va? (How are you?) in FSL 4 class. Not all students completed this assignment in class time and it was assigned as homework for certain students to finish it up at home.
Students are encouraged to colour all images and ensure that all the expressions are spelled correctly. As in English, French sentences begin with a capital letter and end in punctuation. Students must include the accent marks and cédilles that are necessary French. If coloured pencils are unavailable at home, then students may leave the images in black and white, but they should be neat and legible. This assignment is to be used as a study aid, so it should be correct. In the first several weeks of school students have had French class every second day with Monsieur Brewer. A number of topics have been covered in that time. In class we have been learning the numbers in French from 1 ~ 20. Beginning next week we will start on the numbers from 20 up to 31. We are learning these numbers in order to more fluently answer the question: Quel est la date aujourd'hui? (What is the date today?) Students watched a Youtube video about the numbers and practiced saying the days of the week also. Remember that you can find all the days of the week in your student agenda:
Also in class we have talked about the following introductory questions & answers: Comment ça va? (How are you?) Ça va bien. (I am well.) Ça vas tres bien. (I am very well.) Comme ci comme ça. (So so) Ça va mal. (I feel bad!) Quel âge as-tu? (How old are you?) J’ai ____ ans. (I am __ years old.) Comment t'appelles-tu? (What’s your name?) Je m’appelle ____. (My name is ___.) Some helpful links for students to do home study and practice in French are provided to the right of the blog posts. Merci! We have had four French classes thus far and students are already learning some basic phrases. We have started with things like bonjour (hello), comment ca va? (how are you), j em appele (my name is), auvoir (goodbye), etc.
Students were very excited to start learning a new language this week! They learned and practiced many new phrases like: Bonjour!; Bienvenu!; Comment t’appelles-tu?; Je m’appelle; Comment ca va?; Ca va bien; Comme ci, Comme ca; Ca va mal; Je suis un garcon; Je suis une fille and Au revoir!--ask your child to translate their meaning. We also learned a catchy new song called “Bonjour mes amies!” Students are encouraged to participate actively during class as this will help them pick up the language quicker as well as develop their French accents.
